Red Road Bromeliad Project, August 2014
The Charitable Fund provided funding to improve the landscape at the Gardens’ Red Road entrance. The Gardens Horticulturist proposed a bromeliad garden, reminiscent of the Parrot Jungle era, and as an homage to the Jungle’s horticulturist Nat Deleon, a world renowned bromeliad grower. The project entailed the transformation of a non-landscaped grassy area into a brightly colored and highly diverse bromeliad garden, for the enjoyment of the Gardens’ visitors, bicyclists and drivers on Red Road. The project has been acclaimed by many residents and professional growers as a great improvement, and a worthy entrance to a public garden.
